Our History
Cats Limited Veterinary Hospital opened its doors on January 5th, 1995, in a leasehold storefront on Farmington Avenue in West Hartford. The cat-only practice offered patients and their families something different: care focused just on cats in a calm and safe environment with individualized care for every patient. Over the following years, the demand for uniquely high-quality cat care grew, and so did Cats Limited Veterinary Hospital. By 2006, Cats Limited Veterinary Hospital outgrew the original facility, and Dr. Lafer purchased the current building on New Britain Avenue. After extensive renovations, we moved to our new hospital in August 2007. The move to our new facility brought with it the ability to provide even better medical and surgical care and an upscale boarding facility.
Today, the Cats Limited Veterinary Hospital team continues to be led by Dr. Lafer and includes two other feline veterinarians and a talented and caring support team.
Cats Limited Veterinary Hospital is proud to be the first feline-only hospital in Connecticut that is accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). This is important to you and your pet because, since 1996, we have regularly undergone extensive voluntary evaluations by AAHA to ensure that we exceed the association’s high-quality standards of care.
Recognition and Awards
- In 2015 and 2016, Cats Limited Veterinary Hospital was a Finalist in “Best of West Hartford.”
- In 2012 and 2016, Cats Limited Veterinary Hospital was voted in the top three for “Best Veterinarian” in the “Best of Hartford Reader’s Pole.”
- In 2012, Cats Limited Veterinary Hospital was named Best Veterinarian in CT by Destination Guide.
- In 2006, Cats Limited Veterinary Hospital was named Best Veterinarian by the “Hartford Advocate’s Reader’s Poll.”
